Founders and Vision
The founders are Maarten Min and Jetty Min-Kauffmann, architect and artist/designer. The partners established a practice that transcended traditional boundaries. Their vision is to create buildings reflecting their belief that architecture should evoke emotion and inspire creativity.
Design Philosophy
The philosophy of Min2 revolves around the harmonious blend of art and architecture. The firm views buildings as more than mere structures; they are conceived as dynamic entities that interact with their environment and inhabitants. This is achieved through the use of organic forms, natural materials, sustainable, bio-based and bio-designed materials and sustainable solutions for energy generation, ensuring that each project is a unique expression of both form and function.
The couple has a special design method which is called: ultimate, temporary ordering of everything. In which they explore and combine all influences and possibilities and create a unique multi layered design.
Contemporary working approach
For many years the office was working with a team of ca 12 people, engaging in a vivid international intellectual, creative exchange and a varied group of international young designers and trainees designing and creating in a contemporary lifestyle. This collaboration allowed the firm to incorporate diverse perspectives and cutting-edge ideas into their architectural projects, enhancing creativity and innovation in their designs.
The loyal clients were developing firms, housing companies, the government, private individuals and groups, companies, etc. and the projects includes the areas from urban planning, via architecture up to product design and art projects.
Over the years, Min2 is actively participating in numerous exhibitions (Beurs van Berlage, different museums, twice at the Biennale in Venice, etc. ) and competitions. Their innovative work has garnered several awards and recognitions, leading to features in various prestigious national and international publications. This active engagement not only highlights their design excellence but also keeps them at the forefront of architectural innovation and sustainability.
The co-founders Maarten and Jetty are still very active advised and assisted by specialized parties.
Using their skills and experiences in many fields of architecture and design, such as working on private projects as villa’s in natural surroundings, but also with a cooperation for tiny houses, a wildlife shelter for glamping belong to their playing field.
Now is also the time for new developments and products which are worked out in the atelier in Bergen an Zee: ATLJ Min2. Such as the making of the book ‘Bergen architecture’ that was published at the end of 2022, and working on a big volume of the work of Min2., after finishing the graphic novel” Lessons for young architects” in 2009. But also the development of the office villa into apartment’s and the development for The Dune House towards a cultural function, like an artist in residence location, AIR. and participating in exhibitions.
