De Hoep, visitor centre PWN, Castricum

Visitor centre De Hoep of the PWN in Castricum, the PWN is the water company of Noord Holland and the owner of a large part of the dunes where intensive sustainable management is carried out.

Architecture:
The appearance of the building is a dune under which the spaces have been divided. Due to the entrance through a narrow passage through a dune, the perception upon arrival is that the building was built underground, which is not the case.

Sustainable and flexible:
The sustainable building which is built in 1993 and was already build, among other things, with a moss-sedum roof, sustainable materials, smart installations CO2 controlled, daylight controlled lighting, heat pump, etc.

The building has a roof supported by expressive laminated wooden columns, making the layout flexible.

This makes the building very sustainable, because the interior can always be adapted in a new phase.

During reorganizations and upgrading about every 10 years, the entire building is given a facelift.

Spaces have been newly built, modified and again sometimes removed, such as: enlargement of the entrance, a steel walkway around the oval conference and cinema room, the cinema adapted for longer stays and a coffee corner and shop have been designed. Conference and meeting rooms have also been added and the office space and classrooms have been changed. The PWN has tackled the interior several times and there are also ever-changing exhibitions.
